Instructions to create your own website and to use your Stanford server space to store and access files. Let me know if they are unclear, incorrect, or you would like something added to the directions. This is a quick first attempt to get something up.
Information about AFS permissions (giving others access to your server space) is provided here by ITSS. Their instructions assume you are logged onto one of the Stanford servers (ex. elaine.stanford.edu) using Samson or another telnet program. If, however, you have the AFS client installed on your computer (you can mount your drive in Windows), then there is an easier way to change permissions. Just open My Computer, then your drive, and right click on the folder you want to change the permissions on. Choose AFS then Access Control Lists. You can add a user (using their SUNet ID) by clicking on the Add button and then choosing the permissions you want to give them. The page linked above can help you understand what each of the different permissions means.
The Statistics Department has a rather extensive Guide to Computing. Some of the information may be specific to their department, but much of it will apply generally at Stanford.
